What is a Mother Centred Business?
Firstly, I want to acknowledge the sacredness of the topic I am about to explore. There is so Dictionary definition for what a mother centred business is, in the most simplest of forms, it is moving with the ebbs and flows of motherhood and the female cycle and weaving this into business. Journey with me as I share my experience with this…
Before I had Teo, I was caught up in a super rigid way of working and operating which looked like, waking up at 5.30am, getting to work by 8am and leaving anywhere from 5.30pm - 8pm (depending which job I was in). This never changed… ever… regardless if I was on my bleed, if I was low on energy, if I wasn’t well or if my anxiety related to my never ending to do list at work felt extra debilitating that day.
It is so hard to believe that I used to work in this way, it in no way allowed for me to flow with my cycle (hormones, bleed etc). The standard working week really is based on a males cycle and not a females. But I didn’t recognise this regardless of all the burn out, trouble with my cycle, anxiety etc.
Fast forward to becoming a mum, I have navigated and still navigate (on a weekly basis) what business looks like with a little human in my life. Currently, this looks like… being a present mumma first and foremost and listening to my own cycle as a priority and weaving work into this.
In order for me to reap the rewards of a mother centred business such as beach days and national park hangs during the week,
my days/ weeks look a little like this:
Working in my boy’s nap time during the day, when he goes to sleep at night and when he is having some independent play time.
I know the above might sound intense, but in reality, I just go with the flow with Teo’s needs. Some days I can only sneak in an hour and others it could be 3-5 hours (I must admit, there are some crazy 10 hour days muddled in there but they are only when I have additional family support for Teo).
Listening to my body and working around my cycle. For example, the week of my bleed I will always work less and take things super slow and not commit to any major jobs with clients. If I have deadlines etc, I ensure they are realistic and don’t add stress.
Using my intuition to make decisions. I feel like intuition is really underrated, but it truly is such a super power when tapped into.
I am curious to know if you run a mother centred business? What does it mean to you?
Send us an email at thecollectivejourney.au@gmail.com with your experience, we would love to hear from you… perhaps we could come together for a podcast episode?
Love and light,
